We are doing our job separating trash, recycling plastic, glass, aluminum cans. But to create something like this, I was truly in awe.
Behind this creation and eco-friendly business is Severine Zaslawski, the founder and the front-runner of The Green Glass Company. Severine’s mission is to promote sustainable products as a preferred choice for consumers.
All the beautifully made class products in all of her collections are made out of wine and beer bottles that come from the waste stream. The Green Glass Company has created a network of partners who are actively looking and collecting all the used glass and then ship it to the Green Glass for a new look and new usage.
By using patented technology, The Green Glass Company creates products with walls that are up to ten (10) times stronger than traditional glasses. The edges of the glasses are fire-polished with a process borrowed from crystal makers, to produce a smooth rim for a great drinking experience.
The design of the glass is based on the color and shape of the source bottle, with little changes made to keep the process eco-friendly.
FACT: Re-purposing glasses takes only a fraction (1%) of the energy it would require to create a glass from scratch!
The frosting effect on glass is achieved by a non-toxic sandblasting, not by acid etching!
Look at these images. The tumblers and goblets were created our of one bottle. Basically, the bottle was severed in the middle, and the glasses received their edge and stem “trimming” by the specialized processes.
