Very few people in the United States know about it. Leave alone, celebrate it.
However in Europe and in Russia, this holiday is very well celebrated. It is an equivalent of Mother's Day here. The difference is that All women, no matter what age, are being congratulated on this holiday.
It's an enormous sea of flowers everywhere: stores, street vendors, men hurrying up to present roses and tulips to the loved ones. March 8th is an unofficial day for the beginning of Spring in many countries across the Atlantic. It is great to know it and celebrate the spirit of new beginnings here, inside each of us.
However, this holiday started not as a beautiful celebration with flowers, but rather as a proclamation of her rights in the world of industrialism and the lack of rights. In the past 100 years, women fought successfully to position themselves as an equal partner to men, in life and in professional arena.
Still, in many countries world-wide, women still need to assert themselves and fight – yes, this tough and cruel word "fight" – for their place under the sun.
If you would like to take part in and help women in the countries where their rights are neglected, please visit this site and sponsor a woman and her business. This step alone shall bring all of us closer to the day when All women in any place in the world are happy and joyful contributors to their families and nations at large.
To sponsor a woman in her business, please go to Women For Women and become part of historical movement for peace.
