My immediate response was to go and start collecting all the shoes that lie idly without a lot of use in the house into that big plastic bag. And that exactly what I did. And I thanked in my heart these people who do these Shoe Drives regularly. At least I hear from Green Eyes In Africa twice a year in my neighborhood.
First, when they just expanded their mission into our part of the world, I went online to research and actually to contact them to make sure it's not a scam. They happened to be such a great organization of people who are not only passionate about what they do, but treat any request and inquiry with great attitude.
Green Eyes In Africa is a non-profit organization with a mission to educate, empower and love the empoverished kids in Africa.
A few statistics taken from the Soles4Souls website:
• Over 300 million children around the world are without shoes
• Over 1.5 billion pairs of shoes lay idle in American closets
I love what they do. That's why my heart and soul respond so willingly to their request to donate shoes that some very fortunate kid in Africa shall wear.
Save the shoes you don't and probably won't wear in the near future from landfills by donating them to organizations like Green Eyes In Africa and Soles4Souls!
